Cambridge University Requirements for International Students

International students who meet the necessary qualifications are encouraged to apply to the University of Cambridge. We recognize that a diverse student group has enormous intellectual and cultural value. We can access the largest talent pool by accepting students from outside the UK.

Due to the high number of excellent international applicants, there is intense competition for available positions. All undergraduate candidates are still chosen based on their talent and academic performance, nevertheless. Those who pay the higher foreign rate of fees are not given preference.

Application Process

For everyone applying to the University of Cambridge, the process is the same. While the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) and GCE A Levels are the main topics covered on this website, many other national and school exams that measure proficiency at the same level are also valid.

All applications to UK universities are made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), which operates on a pre-qualification basis where offers are made in advance of applicants achieving their final grades. Offer holders are then confirmed or rejected once the results for the relevant qualifications are received.

Referees are asked by UCAS to provide predictions about an applicant’s success in terms of grades. A projected grade is the qualification grade that an applicant’s school or college predicts they will likely earn, assuming all goes according to plan. The University uses these anticipated grades in the admissions process to better understand each applicant’s potential.

Application fee

The majority of overseas applicants* must pay a £60 application fee.

Application fee waiver

International applicants from a country on one of the following lists are automatically eligible for an application fee waiver and do not have to pay the application fee:

• The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list of Overseas Development Aid (ODA) recipients (least developed countries and other low-income countries only).
• The World Bank list of low-income countries.
• The United Nation’s list of least developed countries (LDCs).
• Iran (due to sanctions on international bank transfers)
• Ukraine
